Wish Lemons 5K

I've been wanting to sign up for some more 5k races, but I waited until the end of March because I'm a fair weather runner. It's always warm in Oklahoma by the end of March so I figured I was safe doing a race on March 28th.
Four of my friends and I did the Wish Lemons 5k in downtown Tulsa this morning. Imagine our surprise when Oklahoma got hit with a freak spring snowstorm. On our way there, it was just raining, but by the time we started running the snow was coming down like crazy. Add in temperatures in the low 30's, wind blowing the snow straight in your face, and a long hill for the last stretch, and you have a race that we will never forget.
Even though it was a hard run, it was really fun to run in the snow. It was really pretty running along the river with the snow coming down. Plus, I realized that I have friends who are just as dedicated/insane as I am because all 5 of us showed up for the race despite the weather. I love these girls!

Steph and I before we got out of the car. Oh we were so dry and warm!
Emily, Lindy and Valerie

After the race we weren't quite so dry or warm, but we're still smiling!

Everyone was really happy with their times.

Leaving the stage after accepting my medal. I came in 2nd place in my age group.
Yea for us!
This is what it looked like on our way home. Are you kidding me? It's almost April!

My street looked like this when I got home. My kids are outside building an igloo right now. Where did spring go?

Boys are SO different from girls

Being the mom of 3 little boys makes me realize every day that boys are SO different from girls. For instance, the other day had been kind of rainy, so after the weather cleared up, the boys and their friends went outside. Their activity of choice? Catching slugs. Gross!
The good thing about slugs is that they're pretty slow, so that makes them really easy to catch. After doing research on the internet, Grant and Brady found out that slugs like to eat the tops of strawberries. So, they made their slugs a little picnic and watched them munch away. It kept them fascinated for hours.
Ok, all you moms of little girls...is that how your daughters spend their afternoons? I didn't think so! :)

Loving Spring

I LOVE SPRING!!
Last year when we went skiing it was super cold and snowy. Nick was loving all the fresh powder, but I spent half the day inside drinking hot chocolate and trying to warm up my hands. This year the weather was SO warm. Nick wasn't impressed with the slushy snow, but I was in heaven with temps in the 60's!
Apparently I wasn't the only person loving the warm weather. Check out this crazy dude! Nick couldn't resist taking his picture in the parking lot.

Ski Trip

We went to Utah for spring break this year. We love getting to ski and hang out with our friends, the Haskins, while we're there. Brett and Nick have been friends practically forever, and Julie and I first got to be friends when I started dating Nick 13 years ago. Our kids have a great time together, and I'm glad they're getting to know each other even though we live so far away. We just wish we could see them more than once a year.

Brady got a black eye when he wiped out on a jump, and he was pretty proud of it.

The boys were bummed when we were done skiing on the last day. I think they could have stayed forever.

We visited temple square on our last day there.

We didn't take Drew with us on this trip. We weren't sure he would love skiing yet. He stayed with my mom and dad, and I think that he had as much fun as we did. They took him to Oxley Nature Center, the Children's Museum, Incredible Pizza, and he even got to go to work with my dad and drive a forklift. He also got lots of time to play with his cousins. We've only been home one day, and he's already asked to go back to Grammie's.

Cub Scout Pinewood Derby

Super cheesy smiles from Drew and Brent as we were leaving for the pinewood derby.
Grant and Joe waiting for their cars to come down the track.

This is Grant's 2nd pinewood derby, and he loved working on his car. He designed his car and did most of the work himself.

Brady was there cheering Grant on.

Drew had fun running around with his friends and his cousin Brent.

The boys with their cars and trophies.

We can't wait until next year!

Basketball

This coming Saturday will be our last basketball game of the season. Grant and Brady played on two different teams this season, and I coached them both. I have mixed emotions about this season being over. With no more practices, it will be nice to have our Monday and Tuesday nights back. It will also be nice to have Saturday mornings free again. On the other hand, I love spending time with Grant and Brady and their friends. We've had two teams of really great kids that get along and have so much fun together. Plus, I just love basketball. I love being in the gym with the sounds and smells that remind me of how much I loved playing as a kid. Coaching soccer is fun, but nothing like coaching basketball. I love it! I know that sometime in the not so distant future, my kids will want someone else to coach them. But for now, I am going to enjoy knowing that they want me to be there with them. Brady playing point guard

Being on his own team without Grant has been so good for Brady this year. He has really improved and gained so much confidence. He has been one of our leading scorers this year.

The 1st/2nd graders are so fun to coach. They are so excited if they get to inbound the ball, jump at the beginning of the game, or even touch the ball during the game. They don't pay any attention to the scoreboard, and I love that. A couple of games ago, we had been beaten 20-6. At the end of the game, one of my players said, "Are we home or visitor? Did we win?"

Grant is on a 3rd/4th grade team, and it's a little more fast paced and competitive. I love this picture of me giving the boys a pep talk. Don't they look like they're dwelling on my every word? Ha, ha!

Grant's Team picture

I usually coach solo, but this year I had an assistant coach on both teams.
