Another Swim Meet

This week's swim meet was in Claremore. Grant decided to really challenge himself and and add the breastroke and the 100 IM. After swimming those events plus freestyle, butterfly and the freestyle relay, he was exhausted! His goggles came off during the IM, and he had to swim the last 2 lengths of the pool (breaststroke and freestyle) without goggles. We were so proud of him for finishing that race and not giving up. It definitely wasn't fun!
He won a ribbon for coming in 1st in his freestyle heat.
Since soccer is over now, Brady decided to join the swim team, too. Brady and Grant swim in two different age divisions, so we were glad they wouldn't be competing against each other.
Brady has only been to 3 practices, so he was incredibly nervous to swim at this meet. He only wanted to enter 1 event, but his coach talked him into swimming both freestyle and backstroke. He kept telling us his wasn't sure if he could finish the backstroke so he really didn't want to do it. We assured him that it was just for fun, and it would turn out ok.
His 1st event was freestyle. He shocked everyone (including himself) by coming in 1st place! His grin when he got out of the pool was priceless!
After that, he couldn't wait to swim backstroke. He stunned us again when he came in 1st in that event, too. It was a really great night for Brady!

The 10 and under Championship Meet is next Tuesday, and then our swim season will be over. We are going to take a break for basketball, and then start again in the spring. One sport at a time is as much as we can handle.
